How GIS Direct Deposits Are Issued

If you qualify for the Guaranteed Income Supplement, your GIS amount is automatically bundled into your monthly Old Age Security (OAS) deposit. You will receive a single combined payment into your Canadian bank account on the third-to-last business day of every month.

Key GIS Rules:

  • 100% Tax-Free: Unlike CPP and standard OAS, the GIS is completely non-taxable on your T4A(OAS) slip.
  • Annual July Recalculation: Your GIS rate is reassessed every July based on your CRA income tax return filed for the prior tax year.
  • Disbursement Dates: Follows the identical schedule as Old Age Security (OAS).
